Necroposting. Disable Comments on Some Conversations?

I know this community has not been around very long, but have you all at least discussed whether or not you want to disable further comments on some conversations.  The longer you are around and the more threads there are, the more likely necroposting, and in turn necrobumping, becomes.  I actually am quite guilty of this myself,

Sometimes there are threads where someone says.  Hey how do I do this.

Someone answers and it is accepted as a solution.

Sometimes maybe that is all there is and it has run its course.

1) See if it is possible to turn off comments in a conversation.  Some sites set it up so comments are disabled after a set period of time of inactivity.

2) Who would do it?  Would mods do it?  Would users send a request to mods to do it?

Yet another thing to consider.

@Rickibotta  You impress me every day.... I had to look up what necroposting was... for those of us who don't know.... (thank you google)

Any post or comment made on a forum thread that is very old, e.g., a thread with the last comment being several months old. This type of posting is often done by those who may have stumbled across a thread using search, without realizing no one is actively talking in the thread.

And yes - I agree -for example, when a bonus is over (FARM, HAYSTACK ETC) - if the thread is closed, then no-one can add a comment -

The thing I can't remember it the more common cool name for a dead thread..  I swear there is a name for it, but I can't recall.   Perhaps someone will see this and tell us..  I have just spent too many time on forums.   Some forums used to even ban people for 'necroposting'

Some forums don't like to close any threads because they figure if it is an aptly named thread, all people would search for it and find it, and in the end it reduces content, instead of having 25 different threads with the same purpose.
