Yes you can buy a gift card and use it right away.

Whenever I dine at a participating restaurant like Bonefish grill, Applebee's, Longhorn after I place my order I ask the server to bring my ticket before I'm done eating and I order the gift card for bill and tip.

The card will open in the ibotta app. Just write the account number and pin on the receipt the cashier will have to manually enter the card number.

Thanks odshop

So will this work at lower end restaurants like taco bell or burger king? Not actually having the gift card in hand they are ok with?

I haven't done Taco Bell or Burger King, but I did Subway.  The Ibotta app generates a QR code (the square codes) that Subway can scan at the register.  Some stores want a bar code, some do not,  Ibotta generates the code needed for that restaurant.

I have also gone to Krispy Kreme, Texas Roadhouse and Bob Evans.  The only issue you could have is if you can't get wifi or cell service inside.  Of course, you could step outside for a couple minutes and come back in to pay the bill.

Yes, in my gallery are options for BK & T. Bell.

Just scroll through the gallery. My gallery is showing 49 restaurants yours might differ from mine.

  • Go to home screen
  • Click on gift cards
  • Select restaurant tab.

@Mda1968 I load the gift cards into restaurant apps and order and pay through app.

For Taco Bell it works when you download their app.  You put the gift card in payment and order via the app.  Then go pick it up.  I've done this multiple times.  For Burger King it's different.  The gift cards are not valid via their app.  You have to go to their website and place an online order to use the gift card.

I have had issues the last couple of times when purchasing gift cards at Bass Pro Shop.

When attempting to purchase gift cards through Ibotta using my linked debit card. The system has stalled.  When this occurs close Ibotta app and go to purchased gift to see if transaction went through.  Don't go back or press the review multiple times.  Duplicate charges might occur.

During the last attempt to purchase gift cards this happened to me.  My bank refused ţo pay duplicate purchases for the same amount.

Gift cards are not refundable. So use caution and double check information.

Just thought I’d throw this into the gift card discussion as an FYI. Did you know AARP members can earn free gift cards and buy discounted gift cards through AARP Rewards?  It’s $12/year to be a member and you dont have to be retired to join.  You must be 50 years old or older to join, that’s it.  I’ve saved over $300/year and the gift card discounts are really competitive with other app gift card discounts.  For example, the discount on Dominos pizza gift cards is currently 20% off.  I earn a minimum of $15/ month in free gift cards with no purchase necessary.

Just thought I'd comment that I copied the 16 digit code for my recently purchased Ibotta BK gift card to the Crown Card field in my BK app.  My "Pay With BK Crown Card" value populated with the amount of the Ibotta GC and the app also changed my default payment method from my credit card I had been using to the Crown Card.  That was impressive!!  Of course, I'll have to wait and see what happens when I place an order via the BK app but it looks like it worked perfectly!!  I plan to do that next Wednesday to get a $2 Impossible Whopper!!
