Walmart Pay Troubles

Is anybody here very versed in Walmart Pay? I had started using it by adding gift cards that I get from IB and other rewards apps, and it was working great. However, the last few weeks I get an error message whenever I try to add a gift card, whether it’s an e-gift card or physical plastic card. I tried contacting Walmart and they suggested clearing cookies, and I also tried deleting and reinstalling the app, and it still won’t work. They said they would look into it for me, but I’m just wondering if anybody else has had these issues?

I use Walmart Pay with up to 5 gift cards entered in.  If I use up all the gift cards, my Walmart credit card pays the remainder.

What is the exact error message you get?

I don't think I have ever seen this message.

What were you doing at the time just before the message came up?

You can enter a gift card into Walmart Pay by tapping the bar at the bottom of the Walmart Pay scanning screen, then scroll up to the Add Payment Methods, then Add gift Card.  Or you can select Manage Payment Methods, then press the '+' sign to add another gift card.

I have also added them by scrolling down the menu, selecting Account, then Payment Methods.  You should see the same screen as Manage Payment Methods under Walmart Pay.

I know there is a maximum of five gift cards that can be entered into Walmart Pay.  I do not know the maximum amount allowed in Walmart Pay, if there is one.

I can't think of any other reason for the error.

@mmoore01 , thank you for your response. I have tried many times over the past couple weeks, and get the same message every time. So I was doing different things before trying again. Sometimes I would be shopping in the Walmart app and then try to add my gift cards. Other times doing my deal gathering from the rebate apps and then trying to add a gift card before shopping in store. Sometimes not doing anything on my phone beforehand, but opened it to add a physical card I had just gotten. I have tried all of those different ways to get to the area to add a gift card, and none of it is working for me right now. I hope their customer service will have some helpful solutions soon. There is only one other item that is SO OLD, but maybe your account was set up back then.

Several years ago, Walmart had something called Savings Catcher.  They would give you credit if another store had a lower price.  That amount was added to a specific gift card in the app.  Unfortunately, when Savings Catcher ended, the gift card was still in the list of gift cards, taking up space (you can only have 5 gift cards).  I had to have Walmart Customer Support delete this gift card so I could use it for new gift cards.

Now, you may never have had this, but maybe somewhere along the line, they automatically deleted this from your list of gift cards, but it wasn't done correctly.  Now, when you try to add a gift card, it doesn't like it.  Just a thought.

If you have had five gift cards in your Walmart app many times, then it probably isn't this issue.

@Mikosmama I’ve had similar problems adding GC on Walmart app, but it always lets me add them when I go through Walmart website.

Thank you again, @mmoore01 ! That sounds like an interesting program they had! I usually only have 2 or 3 gift cards in at a time. But that is a great thought!

@Be-Bop-A-Lula , I actually just tried adding a gift card to my payment options through the website, and that worked. I had to then go to the app to select it for Walmart Pay. This will be a good option to do it this way until my app starts letting me do it again if it ever does. Thank you!

You can always default to the website. Walmart has been updating their app, and Walmart Pay has had a bug or two regarding functionality. 

I had a giftcard I didn't want to pay with. I unchecked the giftcard, went to pay, and still paid with the giftcard. This bug has been fixed.

There is a new Walmart Beta app with limited function currently available in the PlayStore, not sure about Apple App store. It will probably be rolled out in the near future to replace current app.
