I’ve never heard anything about text alerts. I don’t believe there are alerts about deals, rebates, etc

Definitely worth the text alerts - last week they had a text bonus offer which I took advantage of and it coincided with the Rake in Cash bonus - so I was able to get $15 worth of bonuses over the weekend.
