Usually I don’t use a Fetch gift card unless I am going to exhaust the entire balance. However, after hearing a You Tuber say they put their “balance on a Fetch gift card,” I decided to try it.
Here’s what happened: the register treated it as a cash payment. I had a $5 GC, and instead of reducing my balance, the register directed the cashier to give me change in cash. We were both surprised by that.
Has anyone else experienced this, perhaps with another merchant?
I'm not quite understanding. I've never heard of being able to "put a balance on a Fetch gc". or do they mean cashing out their Fetch points for store specific GC?? I usually cash out for $10 CVS gc's, and it just deducts the balance from my card if it's less than $10. I don't get the difference back in cash. But if you live in California, I've read you can get the difference back on your GC, but it has to be under a certain $ amount.
@MelissaR They just mean they paid with a Fetch GC.
I thought it would work as you described, but I got the rest in cash. No complaints about that. It will enable me to redeem points faster. My GC was $5, and my total was just under $1, so I got $4 and change back. I intended to use the same gift card for two separate transactions, but there went that plan.
Where do you live?
