@Rickibotta You are correct. Target gives five cents for each bag you reuse. I just checked my last Target receipt and I had been credited for bringing two bags although I only brought and used one. I misinterpreted it as being 10 cents for one bag.
Still nice that Target gives anything at all considering no other stores around here do. Now, if we could just get a discount for using SCO... I'm dreaming.
I read an article about how much bacteria is passed around by reusing bags. It’s insane how filthy bags get, especially the cloth ones, after just a couple uses. Maybe we’ll save 0.50 cents by reusing bags but then need to pay a $75 copay at urgent care to take care of the infection we caught by touching and retouching the used bags. I use the small grocery bags for garbage liners in my bathrooms and that’s my way of saving the earth.
Yep I saw it today for first time and I have no idea what it is! I'm definitely going to check what they end up charging me. I do walmart grocery delivery every week and I've never read anything about a "bag fee" until today.
Addendum: I'm reading thru the replies in this thread and appreciate everyone's input.
@Sorensoj I use grocery bags as liners for my trash bins, too! Of course it's only practical for small bins, but that's all I use. I can't even remember the last time I bought trash can liners. Lol.
About all the bacteria on bags... Yes, it's true, reused grocery bags are filthy. Covid has certainly made people more aware of it. But then, so is clothing. This fact serves to drive home another reason to use your own washable bags and not pay 5-10 cents at the store. You can throw them in the laundry... Just like clothing. (And if your state doesn't do away with disposable and start changing for reusable bags already, believe me, it's only a matter of time.)
Articles such as the one you linked to, often fail to mention just how much bacteria is on EVERYTHING. That's also a fact. Our stuff, especially those things we use and handle regularly, harbors bacteria and needs to be cleaned regularly. Consider your clothes again, for example. We remedy this by --you guessed it-- throwing them in the laundry, not in the trash. Why can't we think of grocery bags in the same way?
I don't even want to think about door knobs, cash, that bowl of mints or peanuts at your favorite restaurant or bar. How about shopping cart handles? Urine and mucus, anyone? I don't mean to be gross, but we can be convinced that anything is too filthy to reuse, especially those things that are more convenient not to.
At the rate we're destroying our resources and our planet, I think most people agree that we need to seriously reconsider, and reinvent when necessary, all the stuff we've deemed suitable for single-use only.
I joined Walmart+ for "free " delivery, yet I pay $5.99 every time I can't afford to get $36 in groceries each time! And now a mysterious bag fee?? It's becoming ridiculous! When I use my EBT for the groceries, they don't charge the $5.99 , but if I ADD something, like I just added toilet paper, they take the money out. Personally I'm disgusted, but I'm disabled and I need the delivery
I noticed you repeatedly call out people who don't use re- usable bags. Well, I'll tell you who else doesn't use re- usable bags- Walmart. I'm disabled and I order from Walmart a couple times a week. I often get bags with 1 or 2 items in them. These fees may be required now, but I for one was never informed or offered a way to switch my deliveries to anything else
It's this sort of thing I keep saying in my feedback or to customer service directly? I pay $12.95 a month for "free" delivery. But if I need anything not covered on my EBT card, like say, toilet paper, I get the $5.99 fee. That really doesn't make sense, I'm still the same person who qualifies for help with SNAP benefits, and I'm already paying for the deliveries. If it's acknowledged that I can't afford enough FOOD FOR MY FAMILY, why am I still being penalized for it?
I ordered from Wal Mart today and had 41 items! 20 of the items were packs of Kool aid meaning all could fit in one! They charged me for 48 bags!! $2.40 for bags! More bags than items!! THEY SENT 4 TOTAL BAGS!! This is fraud!! I have other friends who order and this is a pattern! They are charging at least one bag per item!! SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ASAP! CAUSE IF THEY DO THIS TO EVERY CUSTOMER THEN WE ARE TALKING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS
