What’s your sales tax?

Just out of curiosity, what’s the sales tax in your area? You don’t have to say your city if that’s too invasive, maybe just the state you live in.

I'm in MA. Its 6.25% here. Non-taxable items include clothing, non-prepared food, and recently feminine products along with a few other health related things. Taxes in MA in general are pretty high, but they have a coupon-friendly tax policy. Here, if you buy something on clearance or use coupons, the tax is adjusted down to the price you pay. So if I can get a $3.99 bottle of toothpaste down to free with coupons, then I pay no tax. 😁

I live in GA and it varies by county. I am right on the line between two counties. The sales tax in mine is 2% on all food items and 6% on everything else. If I drive a couple miles down the road then the sales tax is higher. 3% on all food items and 8% on everything else.

VA state tax is 4.3% and my county is an additional 1.7%, so 6% for non food items. Grocery items that aren’t prepared are 2.5% which can also add up fast. Even FAO items with Ibotta don’t become truly free.

6.35%. It’s on so many random things and not on others. Some granola bars have sales tax but not glad plug in things. I find it confusing.
